PHOTOSHOP TOOLS
The heart of any image-making or page layout software
is the tool palette. Photoshop's contains many tools
(several dozen!), some of which are hidden behind others,
indicated by a small triangle at the lower left corner.
Click and hold to drag to a hidden tool. They range from
retouching tools, like the clone stamp tool and the healing
brush tools, to painting and drawing tools, like the
paintbrush and pencil.
The selection tools are especially valuable as they
can isolate pieces of an image that you might want to
work on without damaging other portions.
The text tools in Photoshop are a lot more sophisticated
in CS2 than in previous versions. Be aware, however,
that unless your image is destined for the web or monitor,
creating headlines or body copy in Photoshop is just
not appropriate. Since Photoshop is a bitmap program,
your type will be pixellated, rather than smooth. Use
InDesign or QuarkXPress to add text to your images.
